[You know what Mayfield has been missing out on?

CHAINSWORDS

These machines you may know as 'sounder pounder tree cutterdowners' are somehow swords and your two favorite Warhammer 40k heroes are dueling with them.

None of the smoke associated with chainsaws is to be seen but the sound and the whirring of the blades can't be missed. Not to mention the sparks caused by the clash of blades.

Yes, they're clashing.

Standing a good foot and a half shorter than Garviel, Cain is somehow managing to not get a chainsword blade stuck in his head. He can't fight the Space Marine strength on strength but his ability to deflect the blade must either be instinct or awesome skill. Either way, they still pause every so often because fighting a frakking Astartes is like hitting your head on a brick wall.

Feel free to gawk, think they're insane, or that their weapons can't be wieldy due to physics but they still handle them like they're Jedi Masters.

At the park, of course.

Garviel and Cain will be tagging the threads separately and threadjacking between the two may happen.]

The Imperial Guard is for every human so discount yourself just yet.

Hm, maybe in your world, but back in mine, it hasn't gotten to that point yet. I don't think that I'd be still alive in 50 years, much less 10 thousand. Would that still really affect me, if I'd be long dead by then?

They have honorary members for this sort of thing.

Would you really think that someone like me could qualify, Commissar? [She sort of looks at herself but still holding that grocery bag. Around 5'4" and looks to be in her early twenties... Clearly not a woman made for the battlefield...............]

Yep.

[Kids get conscripted at the age of fifteen. WELCOME TO THE GUARD.]

Mm... I suppose that I won't do too badly. Are people like Garviel common in your time? I just know that a person like him is a Space Marine, who underwent genetic modification and additional organic implants to become more suited for fighting. The things to repel must be much harder in your time, but going from mine, the armor he usually wears seem excessive, and he's comparable to a walking fortress. He's talked about his world many times, but it's hard to follow when the very idea of whole new galaxies being open to humans is a hard one to grasp. But still, ten thousand years! How much have things changed? [mumbling to herself now and obviously not expecting an answer. she probably wouldn't get it even if one was given to her...]

Guys like him exist but there's a lot less of them. His boss had to go and turn against the Emperor, dragging about half of them into his heretical ways. A normal person could go three lifetimes without seeing one but I've worked with them before.

And things to repel? Let me tell you, there are creatures out there that could rip his armor apart like cardboard. It's not a pretty sight.

So that's the short version of it, and the whole Universe got dragged down in the process? [Just pensive, she's not showing much shock or surprise.

Not to politics, anyway. These things, on the other hand.]

Goodness. That does enforce my personal belief that it's best to not get hit in the first place. The bigger you are, the more you make yourself a target, too. Um, out of curiosity, Commissar. Have you seriously fought against a Space Marine? And how did it go?

The whole of humanity got dragged down. There's more to the universe than humans and Chaos.

Me? I've killed two singlehandedly with this very same chainsword. The heretic version, of course.

I see, that does make sense. [nod nod

eating it up and looking IMPRESSED]
That must have been amazing to witness! ...Oh, I do apologize. I wasn't underestimating you, mister Cain, but I do know from firsthand experience that Garviel hits hard, so seeing another human fight him is a bit worrisome, even if it's just a spar. Those weapons are dangerous too, so if any accident happened, it could really end badly if you're not careful. Are you really okay with that?

It's alright if we take a break every now and then. The guy can wear me out fast but in a combat situation, one of us would be making the kill as fast as possible.

Oh, definitely! [Nods knowingly.] But please be careful anyway! I have the means to reattach cut-off limbs, but it'll be better for everyone if no accidents happen in the first place.

I'd rather not know about heresy and sorcery.

From: [personal profile] ex_seventh238
Neither! That's sacraments, actually, but Garviel did mention that religion didn't exist in your time, would that be right? Or well, most of it has been demolished...

That doesn't sound like anything legal to me either way.

Spiritual healing is practiced by the Holy Church, and even if it's not something that you personally trust, please at least try to be respectful towards things you don't know about! It's perfectly legal under divine law. Heresies on the other hand, their very existences are a violation of it.

Date: 2011-06-13 06:28 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hideandhero.livejournal.com
What divine law? Certainly not the God-Emperor's.

Sacraments are effective because people have faith, geez. We're probably not from the same world, but even if our worlds are somehow related, 40 thousand years in the future is still a very, very long time! There's a Church here too, you know, and even if it's not like the ones I knew back in my world, the faith and branch of worship is still the same. The equivalent in your world, Garviel called it "Cruxian", spelled "c-r-u-x-i-a-n", while it's known as "Christianity" here, making its followers called "Christian". It's phonetically similar, but the latter is spelled "c-h-r-i-s-t-i-a-n". Have you heard of that, at least?

No and it sounds distinctly like something that will get a lasblast put right in the back of your head.

[Huffs indignantly with her hands by her hips!]

The times are different, so the beliefs and cultures are different too! Sheesh, heresy hunters and inquisitors are all employed by the Church in other worlds, so just because something seems supernatural and can't be explained to you through science, doesn't automatically make it bad to everyone everywhere!

Date: 2011-06-13 07:13 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hideandhero.livejournal.com
Let me tell you something about the supernatural. Using that warp-forsaken crap only calls on the Dark Gods. I don't want to hear anything about superstitions and frak like that. I've seen and killed daemons with my own eyes and hands. You may think it's safe now but you've just got lucky. One day, Khorne or Slaneesh is going to spot it and be all over it. I don't want to be any part of that frak.

You're not the only one, Commissar, so please don't underestimate everyone and label everything under the same thing just because that's what you're used to! Especially in this town, you'll find supernatural beings and people with powers all over, but there are different sources and reasons to why they can do the things they do. A human capable of performing thaumaturgy or sacraments isn't any less of a human simply because they have these abilities. It's good to be careful, but that sort of paranoia is just overdoing it. I won't pretend to know who these names you said are, but you'll just end up making more enemies, if you dismiss everyone here simply because you can't accept the idea that they can use their abilities properly for a good cause.

I'd rather have them as enemies than friends. That way, they can't stab me in the back.

[AKA, he didn't understand half of the shit she said.]
