[You know what Mayfield has been missing out on?

CHAINSWORDS

These machines you may know as 'sounder pounder tree cutterdowners' are somehow swords and your two favorite Warhammer 40k heroes are dueling with them.

None of the smoke associated with chainsaws is to be seen but the sound and the whirring of the blades can't be missed. Not to mention the sparks caused by the clash of blades.

Yes, they're clashing.

Standing a good foot and a half shorter than Garviel, Cain is somehow managing to not get a chainsword blade stuck in his head. He can't fight the Space Marine strength on strength but his ability to deflect the blade must either be instinct or awesome skill. Either way, they still pause every so often because fighting a frakking Astartes is like hitting your head on a brick wall.

Feel free to gawk, think they're insane, or that their weapons can't be wieldy due to physics but they still handle them like they're Jedi Masters.

At the park, of course.

Garviel and Cain will be tagging the threads separately and threadjacking between the two may happen.]

I see, but what are those.... [Swords was not the right word, she felt it would somehow wrong swords to call them that.]

Chainswords. You've seen me use one before during the attack on the dairy. They are standard issue to officers or assault troopers, in my time. Excellent for cutting through ship bulkheads or... armor.

I do remember, but.... Is it such a wise idea to use it between the two of you?

Oh between us it is perfectly safe. I know his limits, he knows mine, and if I slip up I've got the armor to protect me.

[The implication is of course that Cain will never mess up. Garviel is quite confident in the Commissar, it would seem.]

I think I have a bit more concern for his well being in case there is an accident.

You need not worry. He's a superb swordsman, and I'm very careful with him.

[He smiles at her.] That's... unusual for you though. Normally you're very neutral. Perhaps you're starting to care about people here?

The situation appeared uneven.

[It was her only answer and was more of a dismissal than an explanation.]

May I watch?

Certainly. [He returns to going blade to blade with cain for about 3 minutes before giving Cain another break, looking back to Shiki.] I make allowances for our differences in physiology, you see.

As expected. I should not have doubted.

He's someone I trust, that should tell you everything you need to know.

[He gives her a subtle smile.]

I trust you as well, you know.

I am glad you do. If only more people would.

I am sure they will in time. I intend to use you as an adjudicator once I undertake trying to bring some justice to this place.

And I still look forward to that day.

It may come sooner rather than later, but the Legiones Astartes are patient.
