[You know what Mayfield has been missing out on?

CHAINSWORDS

These machines you may know as 'sounder pounder tree cutterdowners' are somehow swords and your two favorite Warhammer 40k heroes are dueling with them.

None of the smoke associated with chainsaws is to be seen but the sound and the whirring of the blades can't be missed. Not to mention the sparks caused by the clash of blades.

Yes, they're clashing.

Standing a good foot and a half shorter than Garviel, Cain is somehow managing to not get a chainsword blade stuck in his head. He can't fight the Space Marine strength on strength but his ability to deflect the blade must either be instinct or awesome skill. Either way, they still pause every so often because fighting a frakking Astartes is like hitting your head on a brick wall.

Feel free to gawk, think they're insane, or that their weapons can't be wieldy due to physics but they still handle them like they're Jedi Masters.

At the park, of course.

Garviel and Cain will be tagging the threads separately and threadjacking between the two may happen.]

I don't trust any of them. The Lady General, especially. She's the kind to use people to get what she wants, not what's good for everyone.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I hesitate to say this, but I agree with you.

[He pauses.] As a member of the Mournival, I had to do political things I didn't care for at some points. We may have to use her to achieve an equitable outcome for the humans trapped here.

There are a few you can trust though. Ciel. She is... [he hesitates.]

I trust her implicitly.

Souji and Eiki are both worthy of trust as well. The supreme judge is very just, and quite honorable, and Souji is a good boy.

Eiki's okay but she's too overbearing. It's like I can't even think about the wrong thing while she's in the same general area.

Now that Ken kid. I'd take him on as an aide.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
He's a good chap, very helpful, I quite agree about Ken.

[identity profile] hideandhero.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
He kills unsanctioned psykers, you know. The dangerous kind.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Useful.

[He pauses.] I.. should tell you. I am close friends with a sanctioned psyker here. She is without taint, and I know this because... well, I saw taint infect an entire legion. We have oaths to one another. Should either of us become corrupted, we'll kill the other.

[identity profile] hideandhero.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
...what makes her so sanctioned? I guess you guys have that kind of authority...

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
The discipline required for her abilities. Also, she has a form of psychic hood, though not one like I've ever seen before. She explained a bit about it to me.

She's noble and self-sacrificing, though sometimes I think i'm the only one who sees it. I know what she has given up for others.

[He looks distant.] It is strange, to care so much for a mortal, Cain. Outside of the Legion I had only a few remembrancers and Iterators as friends. And she uses the warp. And yet...

She is an example of what Imperial humanity should be. Virtuous, brave, disciplined, wise, and potent. I just wish she could wake up in the morning more easily.

She saved my life, once, actually, when someone had punctured my primary heart with a dastardly attack from behind.

[identity profile] hideandhero.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I have to wonder how trusting you are. Psykers aren't any of those things. You sure this person just hasn't gotten in your mind and started fooling around?

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
[He chuckles.]

No. I knew her before her powers were active, actually.

She was the same person then as she is now. That's the best way to gauge people here. What they're like without any of the the crutches they rely on.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Remember, Cain, I was one of two who picked up on Horus' corruption before the betrayal at Istvaan. I know how to read people, even primarchs, and am not easily swayed.

[He shrugs.]

You shouldn't be too friendly with that fat bastard, though. He's a murderer, and not the useful sort.

[identity profile] hideandhero.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Cain scratches his chin for a moment before reaching up and patting one of the shoulder pauldrons.]

You and I should probably have a serious discussion one day on what the Imperium used to be and what it is now. Guys like that fat one? Probably your average Commissar or even a Lord General.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
What a saddening revelation.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder if what I did had any meaning at all, when i hear that. All that Tarik and I sacrificed. We stood with our brothers at Istvaan against Lupercal, against our fallen Legion and we died for it. If all that you say is true... was it all for nothing? I must know if our defiance bought the Emperor any respite at all.

[identity profile] hideandhero.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
The God-Emperor was still killed at Horus' hand. Hate to say it but you did nothing, mostly.

Well, I suppose you may have saved the lives of some of your brothers.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Killed? I can hardly believe it.

[identity profile] hideandhero.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know how the stories go. All I do know is that he's rotting on the Golden Throne.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
I know very little about the Throne. I have never been to Terra.

[Yet.]

[identity profile] hideandhero.livejournal.com 2011-06-11 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
It's a fact that he's a corpse. No way around that.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
But you serve him still. Explain.

[identity profile] hideandhero.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Cain looks at Garv like he's insane.]

He's the God-Emperor. He fights the Dark Gods on their own plane of existence, ensuring humanity's survival. [At least, that is the drivel given to Commissar's and people of a high enough rank.]

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Wait... so he's... dead but not dead.

[Garviel frowns.]

He always told us -not- to worship him as a god. Insisted on it, in fact.
