CHAINSWORDS

These machines you may know as 'sounder pounder tree cutterdowners' are somehow swords and your two favorite Warhammer 40k heroes are dueling with them.

None of the smoke associated with chainsaws is to be seen but the sound and the whirring of the blades can't be missed. Not to mention the sparks caused by the clash of blades.

Yes, they're clashing.

Standing a good foot and a half shorter than Garviel, Cain is somehow managing to not get a chainsword blade stuck in his head. He can't fight the Space Marine strength on strength but his ability to deflect the blade must either be instinct or awesome skill. Either way, they still pause every so often because fighting a frakking Astartes is like hitting your head on a brick wall.

Feel free to gawk, think they're insane, or that their weapons can't be wieldy due to physics but they still handle them like they're Jedi Masters.

At the park, of course.

Garviel and Cain will be tagging the threads separately and threadjacking between the two may happen.]

Is something wrong?

[He gives her a quizzical look.]
thenorthernwall: (Brought to bear.)

[personal profile] thenorthernwall 2011-06-08 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
No. Let me try that, though.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-08 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Certainly.

Activation rune is by your thumb, here you are then.

[He hands it over for a moment, and smiles brightly at her.]

thenorthernwall: (Sukeban.)

[She takes it, regarding it carefully.]

A tutorial, if you don't mind.

Certainly. It swings much like a broadsword, only a bit heavier, as mine is Astartes-grade. Normally I'd suggest a human use two hands but you're strong enough to manage it with one.

It is primarily a cutting weapon, I don't recommend using it as a thrusting blade without a bit of practice, the motion of the blades will throw your balance off until you're used to the blade moving even while you swing it. Broad strikes are best, because you can carve a lot off with them. You can also reverse the direction of the blades to throw your opponent's parry off.

[He sounds a bit like his old self as a scout-sergeant, teaching a recruit the basics of how to use a chainsword.]

thenorthernwall: (Modern Major General.)

[Quietly:] Like this?

[She steps out away from him and moves the blade in a wide arc. She imagines this is what it must feel like to have automail...]

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yes... not bad. Allow me to adjust your grip here slightly]

[His armored hands touch hers as he reaches around.]
thenorthernwall: (I'm a free bitch baby.)

[personal profile] thenorthernwall 2011-06-09 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
[She tenses, but lets him guide her hand.] This way, then.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Garviel nods, and blinks, noticing the tension.]

Everything all right then?
thenorthernwall: (Truly beautiful (anime))

[personal profile] thenorthernwall 2011-06-09 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not used to people being this close to me. I don't really like it.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-09 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
You are safe with me. Surely you know that.
thenorthernwall: (Get ready to die.)

[personal profile] thenorthernwall 2011-06-09 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. It makes no difference, though.

[A grunt.] Anyway, continue.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Very well. It's not like your blade, or like my Spatha from Klaus. Chainswords aren't a subtle weapon, in the swinging anyway. All the tricks come from reversing and altering the pitch of the chain. You try it, apply pressure to the rune at various intensities and it will alter how the chainsword turns.

thenorthernwall: (Hope it gives you hell.)

[Her face says she does not believe you. She pushes on a thing and it magically makes it work... Yeah, uh-huh, okay.]

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-10 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Garviel is quiet and lets her discover for herself. Hopefully without chopping any limbs off.]
thenorthernwall: (Color portrait on the wall.)

[personal profile] thenorthernwall 2011-06-11 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Haaah, well, Garviel, your reward for this is the look of somewhat childlike wonder on her face when she figures out how this thing works.] ...Nice.

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-12 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Very nice, yes. I'm glad you approve. I've wielded it for over a hundred years, and defeated nearly every foe I've come across with it.

[personal profile] thenorthernwall 2011-06-13 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'd be interested in seeing more closely how it works... In fact, I'd like one of my own. Can you get me a schematic?

[identity profile] lunawolves10th.livejournal.com 2011-06-13 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I cannot, however once I show it to the Baron he may be able to reproduce the mechanism.
